Total U.S. printed writing paper shipments rose 1% in March 2022

Printing writing paper  

Total shipments of printed writing paper increased by 1% in March 2022 compared to March 2021;  

Total purchases were up 3% compared to the same three-month period in 2021;  

Total inventories were down 3% in March compared to February 2022.  

Uncoated paper (UFS)  

Uncoated paper shipments decreased by 3% in March 2022 compared to March 2021;  

Total inventories were down 3% in March compared to February 2022.  

Coated paper (CFS)  

Compared with March 2021, the purchase volume of coated paper increased by 24% in March 2022;  

Total inventories were down 3% in March compared to February 2022.  

Coated mechanical paper (CM)  

Coated mechanical paper shipments decreased by 14% in March 2022 compared to March 2021;  

Total inventories were down 2% in March compared to February 2022.  

Compared with February 2021, the import and export volume of coated mechanical paper decreased by 21% and 16% respectively.  

Uncoated mechanical paper (UM)  

Compared with March 2021, the purchase volume of uncoated mechanical paper in March 2022 decreased by 0.3% and was basically flat;  

Total inventories were down 15% in March compared to February 2022;  

Compared with February 2021, the import and export volume of uncoated mechanical paper increased by 5% and 62% respectively.
